The Segway Ninebot ZT3 Pro is the all-terrain all-rounder among Ninebot scooters: wide tyres, suspension and a powerful motor. From the factory it is limited – like every road-legal e-scooter – to 20 or 25 km/h. If you want to ride it at full speed on private property or a track, you'll be asking: which licence code fits, what does it really do and what do you need to bear in mind regarding the firmware? Here are the answers.
Update of 19.10.2026: This article previously stated (most recently in the addendum of 09.10.2026) that it was not conclusively known which firmware versions the licence code works with, that it works for most customers regardless of the installed firmware, and that the tuning could be reinstalled via the web app after a firmware update. From now on: the licence code is sold exclusively for older firmware versions and should be treated as if it were not compatible with the latest firmware. If it does not work with the latest firmware, no refund can be offered; an exchange is excluded. Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected. What remains important: after activation, do not use the official Segway/Ninebot app any more – an update via the app can overwrite the tuning.
Which ZT3 variants are covered?
You don't need a separate code for each variant. Our tuning licence code for Ninebot & Segway covers these ZT3 models:
- ZT3 Pro
- ZT3 Pro D and ZT3D Pro
- ZT3 Pro E
The letters at the end stand for regional or equipment variants. The same code also works for the G30, G2, F2, F3, G3 and GT3. You'll find the complete list in the Ninebot Tuning category.
Firmware and the Segway app: what you need to know
The licence code is sold exclusively for older firmware versions. As a rule, you should treat it as if it were not compatible with the latest firmware version of your scooter. We do have customers for whom it also works with the latest firmware. We cannot guarantee that, which is why the licence code is sold exclusively for older versions. If it does not work with the latest firmware, no refund can be offered; an exchange is excluded. Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.
What matters is what happens after activation: do not use the official Segway/Ninebot app any more after that. The app may install a firmware update that overwrites the tuning. We cannot guarantee that the tuning can be activated again on the new firmware after such an update.
What does the unlock do on the ZT3 Pro?
With the licence code, approx. 35–40 km/h is possible on the ZT3 Pro on private property. For comparison within the Ninebot range:
- MAX G30 / G2: approx. 27–32 km/h
- F3: up to approx. 35 km/h
- ZT3 Pro: approx. 35–40 km/h
- G3: up to approx. 45 km/h
- GT3: up to approx. 50 km/h
These are guide values. The speed actually achievable depends on battery level, rider weight, tyre pressure, temperature and surface, among other things – especially off-road, where the ZT3 is at home, this plays a big role. The unlock raises the electronic limit; it does not create additional motor power.
Two riding configurations
After activation you choose between two modes:
- Sport mode: higher top speed
- Standard mode: balanced configuration
Both modes are intended exclusively for use on closed-off private property or tracks. You can return to the original configuration at any time.
How activation works
- Order a licence code: The code and step-by-step instructions usually arrive by email within an hour of payment.
- Connect: Switch on the ZT3 and connect via Bluetooth.
- Enter the code and activate the configuration you want.
This usually takes about five minutes. No workshop appointment, no tools, no tuning chip and no opening the scooter.
Please note: After activation, the official Segway/Ninebot app must no longer be used. So make any settings that matter to you in the app beforehand.
ZT3 Pro or a different model?
You'll find the exact model name on the type plate, usually under the deck or on the steering column. If you ride a G3, read our guide Unlocking the Ninebot G3. For the MAX G30 and G2 there is the guide Unlocking the Ninebot MAX G30 & G2. You'll find more answers in our FAQ.
Frequently asked questions about the ZT3 Pro
Does the code work with my firmware version?
The licence code is sold exclusively for older firmware versions. As a rule, you should treat it as if it were not compatible with the latest firmware version of your scooter. If it does not work with the latest firmware, no refund can be offered; an exchange is excluded. Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected. After activation, do not use the Segway/Ninebot app any more.
Does the scooter have to be opened?
No. The unlock is done exclusively in software via Bluetooth.
Can I undo the tuning?
Yes, the scooter can be reset to its original configuration at any time.
Does this make the ZT3 more powerful?
No. What changes is the electronic speed limit, not the motor power. Higher speeds also increase consumption and reduce range.
Important legal notice
Our tuning licence codes are intended for hobby and sport riders who use their vehicle on closed-off private property or suitable tracks – with the consent of the owner or operator.
In Austria and Germany, a vehicle modified in this way is not approved for use on public roads. The operating permit or type approval and insurance cover become void, possibly also the entitlement to ride it; the manufacturer's guarantee may be lost.
In other countries, please find out about the legal situation yourself beforehand. There, too, you should generally assume that use on public roads is not permitted. Always wear a helmet and protective clothing at higher speeds.
Segway and Ninebot are trademarks of their respective owners. We are not affiliated with the manufacturer; our licence code is compatible with the models mentioned but is not an official manufacturer product.
