The Segway Ninebot G3 is one of the most popular e-scooters with suspension and wide tyres. From the factory, like all road-legal e-scooters, it is limited to 20 or 25 km/h. If you want to ride it at full speed on private property, you'll be asking: which licence code fits, what exactly does it do, and what do I need to watch out for? Here are the answers in brief.
Which G3 variants are covered?
You don't need a separate code for each variant. Our tuning licence code for Ninebot & Segway covers, among others:
- G3 / G3D / G3E
- MAX G3D / MAX G3E
The letters at the end stand for regional or equipment variants. They make no difference to the unlock. The same code also works for the F3, ZT3 Pro, GT3, G30, G2 and F2. You'll find the complete list in the Ninebot Tuning category.
What does the unlock do on the G3?
The G3 is one of the more powerful models in the range. With the licence code, up to approx. 45 km/h is possible on private property. For comparison:
- G3 / MAX G3D: up to approx. 45 km/h
- F3: up to approx. 35 km/h
- ZT3 Pro: approx. 35–40 km/h
- GT3: up to approx. 50 km/h
These are guide values. The speed actually achievable depends on battery level, rider weight, tyre pressure, temperature and terrain, among other things. The unlock raises the electronic limit; it does not create additional motor power.
Two riding configurations
After activation, you choose between two modes:
- Sport mode: higher top speed
- Standard mode: balanced configuration
Both modes are intended exclusively for use on closed-off private property or tracks. You can return to the original configuration at any time.
How activation works
- Order a licence code: The code and step-by-step instructions usually arrive by email within an hour of payment being received.
- Connect: Switch on the G3 and connect via Bluetooth.
- Enter the code: Enter your personal licence code.
- Choose a configuration: Activate Sport or Standard mode.
This usually takes about five minutes. No workshop appointment, no tools, no tuning chip and no opening the scooter.
Firmware updates and the Segway app
Update of 19.10.2026: This section previously stated that it was not conclusively known which firmware versions the licence code works with, that it works for most customers regardless of the installed firmware, and that the tuning could be reinstalled via the web app after a firmware update. From now on: the licence code is sold exclusively for older firmware versions and should be treated as if it were not compatible with the latest firmware. If it does not work with the latest firmware, no refund can be offered; an exchange is excluded. Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.
The licence code is sold exclusively for older firmware versions. As a rule, you should treat it as if it were not compatible with the latest firmware version of your scooter. We do have customers for whom it also works with the latest firmware. We cannot guarantee that, which is why the licence code is sold exclusively for older versions. If it does not work with the latest firmware, no refund can be offered; an exchange is excluded. Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.
What also matters is what happens after activation: do not use the official Segway/Ninebot app any more after that. The app can install a firmware update that overwrites the tuning. We cannot guarantee that the tuning can be activated again on the new firmware after such an update.
Please note: after activation, the official Segway/Ninebot app must no longer be used.
G3 or a different model?
Not sure which model you have? You'll find the exact name on the type plate, usually under the deck or on the steering column. If you ride a MAX G30 or G2, read our guide Unlocking the Ninebot MAX G30 & G2. If you ride a ZT3 Pro, read our guide Unlocking the Ninebot ZT3 Pro.
Still unsure?
Send us a short email with your exact model before you buy at info@escooterunlock.com – we'll tell you which code fits.
Important legal notice
Our tuning licence codes are intended for hobby and sport riders who use their vehicle on closed-off private property or suitable tracks – with the consent of the owner or operator.
In Austria and Germany, a vehicle modified in this way is not approved for use on public roads. The operating permit or type approval and insurance cover become void, and possibly your entitlement to ride it as well; the manufacturer's guarantee may also be lost.
In other countries, please check the legal situation yourself beforehand. There too, you should generally assume that use on public roads is not permitted. Always wear a helmet and protective clothing at higher speeds.
Segway and Ninebot are trademarks of their respective owners. We are not affiliated with the manufacturer; our licence code is compatible with the models mentioned but is not an official manufacturer product.
