Tuning licence code for Yamaha e-bikes from model year 2016 – up to approx. 45 km/h
With this digital tuning licence code for Yamaha e-bikes you adjust the factory speed limit of compatible Yamaha drive systems via software – without removing the motor, a tuning chip or an additional module. No workshop appointment, no tools.
Activation is done on a computer: you connect your e-bike's display with a micro USB data cable, open the activation page in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge and enter your code. This usually takes just a few minutes.
🔎 Do you need this code?
Yamaha has two system generations:
From model year 2016 (“New” on the activation page): this licence code is for these systems.
Up to model year 2016 (“Legacy” on the activation page): these can be unlocked on the activation page without a licence code. Please do not buy a code in this case.
Is your e-bike from 2016, or are you unsure? Before buying, email us the manufacturer, model, model year and display at info@escooterunlock.com – we will tell you whether the code fits.
📟 Important: display reading
The tuning works via the wheel size stored in the system. Afterwards your display shows less than you are actually riding. Speed, distance and range can differ by up to about half. For your real speed, a GPS speedometer app works best.

E-bike with a Yamaha drive from model year 2016 and a micro USB port on the display
Computer or laptop with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
Micro USB cable with data transfer (charging-only cables do not work)
Internet connection
Smartphones, tablets, iPhone and iPad are not supported for activation.
🔧 Activation
Order the licence code.
Receive your personal code by email, usually within one hour of payment being received.
Open Chrome or Edge on your computer and go to the activation page from the email.
Select the brand “Yamaha” and then “New”.
Connect the display to the computer with the micro USB data cable and switch on the e-bike.
Select “Connect bike” and choose your e-bike.
Enter the full licence code and apply the tuning setting.
The e-bike then switches off. The new setting is active the next time you switch it on.
Leave the cable, browser tab and window unchanged while connected, otherwise the connection will drop. If the connection does not work, first try a different data cable and a USB port directly on the computer.
🔄 Deactivation
You can select the original setting (25 km/h) again at any time on the activation page. No permanently fitted chip is needed.
1 code = 1 e-bike. On activation, the code is assigned to your e-bike and cannot be transferred to another vehicle afterwards – not even after a reset.
🚀 What speed is realistic?
The motor then assists up to approx. 45 km/h. How fast you actually ride depends on factors such as the drive, gearing, battery level, weight, tyres, gradient and wind. No particular value is guaranteed.
⚠️ Software updates
A software update from the manufacturer or at a dealer may affect how the unlock works. We cannot predict whether or when this will happen. Your e-bike should be in its original software state; software that has already been modified or replaced electronic parts may prevent activation.

Delivery area: Orders are only possible with an address in Austria or Germany.
🛡️ No returns after delivery – statutory warranty remains
Digital licence codes cannot be returned once they have been provided. When buying, you expressly agree in the cart that we deliver immediately, and you confirm that your statutory right of withdrawal expires as a result. Details can be found in the withdrawal policy.
Irrespective of this, your statutory warranty rights remain, for example if a licence code is invalid or has already been used. In such a case, please contact us – we check every case individually.
⚖️ Legal notice: for private property and tracks only
Our tuning licence codes are intended for hobby and sport riders who use their vehicle on closed-off private property or suitable tracks – with the consent of the owner or operator.
In Austria and Germany, a vehicle modified in this way is not approved for use on public roads. The operating permit or type approval and insurance cover lapse, possibly also the authorisation to ride it; the manufacturer's guarantee may no longer apply.
In other countries, please find out about the legal situation yourself beforehand. There, too, it must generally be assumed that use on public roads is not permitted.

🛡️ Safety
Higher speeds increase, among other things, braking distance, energy consumption, tyre and brake wear and the stress on the battery, motor, drivetrain, suspension and frame. The risk of accidents and injury also rises. Only use the unlock with an e-bike in technically perfect condition, and wear a suitable helmet and protective clothing.

My Yamaha e-bike is older than 2016. Do I need the code?
Usually not – the older generation (“Legacy”) can be set on the activation page without a code. If in doubt, ask us first.
Does it work with a smartphone?
No. You need a computer or laptop with Chrome or Edge.
Does the display show the real speed?
No. The reading is below the actual speed, sometimes by up to about half.
Does the motor have to be opened?
No. Activation is purely digital via micro USB.
Can I remove the tuning again?
Yes, on the activation page with the setting “Original”.
May I ride on public roads with it?
No. In Austria and Germany, an e-bike modified in this way is not approved for use on public roads. The code is intended for closed-off private property and tracks.
